Community Garden Mural | Bronx, New York

Padre Plaza: Mike’s Way is a personal mural honoring Mike and celebrating the meaningful connections that bring a community together.

Created by Gloria Zapata of GZFotografias LLC, the mural incorporates my signature black-and-white silhouette portrait style, artistic details, and color to bring a personal and expressive touch to the garden.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this project has been seeing children, young people, and community members stop to admire the artwork and share their appreciation. These moments remind me of the power of public art to inspire creativity, encourage self-expression, and bring people together across generations.

Working with limited supplies also challenged me to adapt my creative process and make the most of the materials available. This experience reflects my belief that creativity is not simply about the resources we have, but how we use them to bring a vision to life.

More than a mural, Mike’s Way represents appreciation, connection, and the importance of recognizing the people who make a difference in our communities.

Gallery & Creative Moments

A collection of photographs and videos documenting the mural, my artistic process, and the meaningful moments surrounding this community art project. From developing the silhouette portrait to adding color and finishing details, these moments offer a closer look at the creativity and dedication behind the work.

Creating the Artwork: Mr. Mike

Watch the creative process unfold as I bring Mr. Mike’s silhouette portrait to life. Inspired by Mrs. Sheila’s perspective and the personal significance he holds for her, this artwork reflects how portraiture can honor someone’s presence and the connections that make a community meaningful.

Through my signature black-and-white silhouette portrait style, I incorporate vibrant background colors, a soft blurred-background effect, detailed features, and expressive artistic elements to create a personal tribute. These layers of color and visual texture add depth to the composition while allowing the portrait to remain the focal point.

For me, art is a way to tell stories, express appreciation, and celebrate people who hold a special place in the lives of others.

The Vision Behind the Artwork

My goal is to create public art that does more than transform a wall or shared space. Through silhouette portraiture, color, and visual storytelling, I aim to honor meaningful people, celebrate community connections, and inspire children and young people to explore their own creativity.

Projects like this remind me that art can create opportunities for conversation, bring people together, and make public spaces more welcoming and inspiring. I look forward to continuing to develop artwork that celebrates the people and stories that make our communities special.

Creating Padre Plaza: Mike’s Way has been a reminder of how art can bring people together, honor meaningful connections, and inspire creativity across generations. I’m grateful for the moments, conversations, and community appreciation that have been part of this artistic journey.
