Honoring James Baldwin Through Art: My Grandscale Mural Experience in Harlem
Creating the James Baldwin mural for the Grandscale Mural Project in Harlem was an unforgettable experience. Each brushstroke felt like a conversation with Baldwin’s spirit his courage, truth, and love for community. The energy of Harlem inspired me deeply as residents stopped to connect, share stories, and celebrate art in motion. This mural isn’t just a tribute it’s a reminder that art can heal, empower, and keep our cultural legacy alive.
Art, Community, and Inspiration at NYC DOT Summer Streets
This summer 2025, I joined NYC DOT’s Summer Streets to share my art, teach creative workshops, and showcase my brand, GZFotografias. I led hands-on art sessions that invited families and youth to paint and express themselves freely. One highlight was creating a special portrait of Commissioner Ydanis Rodríguez, celebrating his leadership and support for community art. It was a beautiful day filled with creativity, connection, and the joy of bringing art to the streets of New York City.

Celebrating Freedom & Creativity: Juneteenth at The Center
Since 2023, I’ve been proud to participate as a vendor for Juneteenth at The Center, celebrating freedom, culture, and creativity while honoring Black history and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Each year reminds me why I create: to connect people through color, culture, and community pride.
Everything Women: Honoring Power, Creativity & Legacy
In March 2023, I had the honor of exhibiting my silhouette portraits for “Everything Women” at the Poe Park Visitor Center in the Bronx, celebrating iconic, historic, and activist women through art. The exhibition received wonderful feedback and included a BronxNet interview where I shared my inspiration for uplifting women’s stories. That same year, I also led a workshop for high school students visiting from Florida, teaching them to create their own silhouette portraits an inspiring experience that reminded me why I love sharing art with the next generation.
