Art, Community, and Inspiration at NYC DOT Summer Streets

This summer 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to be part of NYC DOT’s Summer Streets, where I combined my love for art, teaching, and community engagement through GZFotografias LLC.

Sharing Creativity with the Community

Throughout the event, I hosted an interactive art activity that invited people of all ages to explore their creativity. From painting and drawing to learning the basics of silhouette art, participants got to express themselves freely in a fun, welcoming environment. Seeing youth, families, and even passersby stop to create art together reminded me why I do what I do to bring people closer through creativity and culture.

Teaching and Inspiring Youth

As a teaching artist, I always aim to create experiences that empower and educate. During Summer Streets, I guided participants in simple art exercises, encouraging them to experiment with color, form, and self-expression. Many were surprised at their own hidden talents! Watching them take pride in their work was one of the most rewarding parts of the day.

Honoring Leadership Through Art

One of my favorite moments was creating a special portrait of NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodríguez, capturing his leadership and dedication to the city. It was my way of honoring someone who helps bring art and activity into our public spaces. The piece received great feedback from the community and DOT team a proud moment that showcased how art can celebrate both culture and civic impact.

Representing GZFotografias

This event was also a chance to share my brand, GZFotoGrafias, which stands for creativity, empowerment, and community connection. I displayed my artwork, shared information about my art services, and connected with people who were inspired by what I do from silhouette portraits to murals and art workshops.

A Day to Remember

Summer Streets was more than just an event, it was a celebration of New York City’s vibrant spirit. Being surrounded by so many creative people, from artists to families, reminded me how powerful art is when it’s shared openly with the community.

I’m grateful to NYC DOT for giving artists like me a platform to inspire others and make art accessible in the heart of the city.
